Privatisation of IJN (Institut Jantung Negara)

Assalamualaikum :)..

About 2 days ago I read in Utusan Malaysia Online regarding the proposal made by Sime Darby Berhad to be the biggest shareholder of IJN.

The news raises some concerns amongst most of our fellow Malaysians, from different level and field in the society. The question of would the 'new' IJN be middle and low-class friendly, and the concern of whether this move would actually be beneficial, both for the government and Sime Darby, and not to forget, to the IJN itself, its expertise, the staffs, and so much more.

Briefly, Privatisation Policy was introduced in 1981, under the administration lead by our former PM, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

One can't deny (in most cases) how much has this policy contribute in the development (most of it, economically) of this country. By privatising public sectors (in which serve the public), the government could save loads of money and focus the use of the 'profit' somewhere else, where they seem fit.

On the bright side, for consumers, we can enjoy a better quality of service, as the sector has become more towards business-oriented (customer-friendly) rather than service-minded (in which u r expected to be grateful the service exists, regardless of the performance).

As the service becomes more for business, one can feel the burden of coping with the cost. And not everyone can cope with this kind of change (economically speaking).

Let us just pray and hope the proposal of selling 51% of the IJN equity to Sime Darby Berhad be beneficial to all. Sime Darby had also promised to let the fee structure as how it is, so that the middle-class and the poor could also benefit from the service, as for we all know, health problems didn't discriminate on how deep your pocket is, health services do.

Jz sharing my 2cents. Cheers :D!!
